Exhibit: Going to Gone: Earth's Biodiversity Loss and What We Can Do
The teeming diversity of life on our Pale Blue Dot—planet Earth—is under grave threat from the impact of our own activity, and biologists are raising the alarm about accelerating rates of decline in the plant and animal species of our world. Featuring illustrations from historical studies of our natural world found in Cornell University Library collections, this new exhibit in the Mann lobby highlights key factors behind the decline of animal species in the 21st century along with emerging research insights and conservation efforts that give us good reason to believe: If humans are main drivers of biodiversity decline, we also have the power to change the trend.
Times
Exhibit: Keeping Common Birds Common: Birds and Habitat at Cornell Botanical Gardens and Beyond
Organized by Cornell University Library in collaboration with Cornell Botanic Gardens, a new installation in Mann’s first floor Top Shelf Gallery features unforgettable portraits of birds by wildlife photographer Marie Read, taken in biodiverse habitats maintained by the Gardens. This exhibit shows how managed landscapes that integrate principles of habitat conservation and native plant gardening have a key role to play in protecting and nurturing the beautiful birds that visit our backyards, neighborhoods, parks, fields, and forests, with the hopes of keeping these common birds common forever. This exhibit is part of the From the Brink program.
Times
Exhibit: Last Call: Bird Decline and the Threat of Extinction
The world has lost, or is on the brink of losing, a great variety of bird species. Just in the last fifty years, the collective North American bird population alone is down by 2.9 billion adults. What is causing this alarming loss, and what can be done to stop it? Mann’s current Gallery exhibit showcases research at Cornell and how natural history collections such as those in the Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the Cornell Museum of Vertebrates help confront bird extinction at the species and ecosystem levels. This exhibit is part of the From the Brink program.

Faculty Talk: Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research Talk and Anniversary Celebration
Join us for our 15th Anniversary Celebration and engaging talk with Dr. Karl Pillemer, Hazel E. Reed Human Development Professor in the College of Human Ecology, Professor of Gerontology in Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, and founding Director of the Cornell Institute for Translational Research on Aging. Karl also directs the Cornell Legacy Project and is author of the book 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans.
Dr. Pillemer's talk will focus on Climate Change in An Aging World. As our world grapples with the accelerating consequences of climate change, one of the most urgent and overlooked stories is how this crisis is hitting older adults hardest. This lecture shines a light on the striking vulnerability of older people to extreme heat and climate-related disasters, a population whose unique needs have been largely ignored in emergency planning. But the picture isn't all bleak: older adults are also a powerful and underutilized force for solutions, and this talk makes the case for why they should be at the center, not the margins, of our environmental response. Whether you work with older populations or simply care about building a more resilient society, you'll leave with fresh perspectives and concrete strategies for engaging older adults in the fight against climate change.
Following the talk with Dr. Pillemer, stay for refreshments and celebrate the BCTR's 15th anniversary. You will have the opportunity to meet center faculty and staff who are bringing Dr. Urie Bronfenbrenner's work to life. Separate advance registration is required to reserve your spot!

Talk: Daniele Visioni on climate interventions: "What Do We Know, What Do We Need to Know, Should We Know It?"
Climate intervention (or climate engineering, or geoengineering) is a topic that is gaining prominence in mainstream climate policy discourse, especially as the chance of remaining below 1.5 ºC of warming above preindustrial levels fades. It is defined as any deliberate, large scale intervention in the climate system aimed at reducing the harmful effects of the increase in greenhouse gases. As an umbrella term, it usually includes both large scale methods of CO2 removal from the atmosphere (Carbon Dioxide Removal, CDR) and methods aimed at reducing the incoming sunlight in order to cool the planet (Solar Radiation Modification, SRM). In this talk, Assistant Professor Daniele Visioni will give an overview of both CDR and SRM.

Law School Breakfast & Book Talk: “Myron Taylor: The Man Nobody Knew”
Myron Taylor was one of the most consequential Americans of the 20th century. In the early part of the century, Taylor dominated American business—first as the czar of the textile industry, and later CEO of U.S. Steel. Thereafter, he served as President Franklin Roosevelt’s “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary” to the Vatican during World War II. And in that role, Taylor was at the epicenter of eight or nine of the most important geopolitical issues of that era.
You are cordially invited to meet the author, C. Evan Stewart ’74, JD ’77, who will discuss his recently published book, “Myron Taylor: The Man Nobody Knew,” and answer questions about Taylor’s life and times.

But as Einhorn shows, AI can either simplify complex problems or obscure them, expand your thinking or constrain it. With AI becoming more embedded in our work and personal lives, the challenge we face is no longer about using AI—it is about leading AI with clarity, discernment, and a commitment to human agency.
